A kaleidoscopic career

Give me something to manage!

I have always loved creating order out of chaos. Organizing came to me naturally but I knew I had to have valid skills in order to enter the marketplace. When I had some time off between country-hopping with my husband's work, I went back to the university and got a degree in International Relations with an emphasis in marketing and management. Alas, I was ready to be a business woman!

International PR/Marketing Director

Picture
I started out as PR director for Euronet Worldwide in Poland. True to the nature of start-ups, I had to wear a lot of hats: PR manager, human resources manager, interior designer, translator, events organizer and country consultant.

The company grew so fast that after two years, I was promoted to international marketing director and responsible for five countries, travelling to Hungary, Czech Republic, Germany, Croatia and Romania. It was exciting to see how fast we grew. I enjoy start-ups because you have the chance to form the company culture from top to bottom.

International Marketing Director

When Pepsi-Cola General Bottlers International was looking for an International Marketing Manager for their office in Warsaw, I happened to be in the right place at the right time. I was "local," I spoke Russian and I knew the Eastern European market. I was responsible for coordinating marketing efforts in Poland, Russia and the Baltics.

It was challenging to implement any new ideas on a country specific level because of marketing directions coming from global headquarters. However, we managed to incorporate our own input and the rise in sales was proof that our intuitions were right for the local market.

Concert organizer

I thrive on organizing events and all the promotional particulars that go along with it -  from ticket and poster design to Email advertising to writing interesting programs. I have a good understanding of "flow" and know that it is essential to successful programs.

Film assistant coordinator

When asked to be Assistant Coordinator on the Maltese side for the German film company, Rat Pack MbH, in the filming of "Wickie auf grosser Fahrt," I was excited to be able to use my German language skills and work with such talented people.  It was the first 3D film shot in Europe so it was a big deal.

Being in a high-stress environment (and film only knows stress) was right up my alley.  My background in organizational, event management and people skills were all called upon at one time or another.

The weather was not on our side and we spent a lot of time running around in rain gear. While the Germans work hard, they also play hard so organizing celebratory events was high on their priority list when they were ready to unwind.

Film locations coordinator

The stress factor went up a few notches when I was Locations Coordinator for Paramount Film's "WWZ" with Brad Pitt. Making sure that all location requirements were met for a cast and crew of over a thousand running through Malta's streets was the biggest challenge I think I have ever had in my career but also the most rewarding.

Keeping people off the street during explosions, directing traffic for umpteen trucks, providing a zillion people with food and drink from dawn until dark and cleaning up the streets after we finished made for some very long 15 hour days. "Locations" responsibility was always first on the set...last to leave.

The long list of daily responsibilities was endless. I was called in at the last minute so there was no preparation for the chaos that was about to befall me. But as my British boss told me, when you have management skills, film is just another machine to manage...

One thing is for sure - I have a new appreciation and respect for filmmaking.
